By now I'm sure you are all painfully aware of the horrific extrajudicial murder of George Floyd in Minneapolis MN and subsequent protests that have been met with shocking acts of police brutality. Sadly this is only the most recent example of an innocent black citizen being murdered in cold blood at police hands, and until major changes are made it likely will not be the last. This is the direct result of a long history of systematic, institutionalized racism that dates back to the very founding of modern policing and beyond.

The music that we promote and that we love is forever indebted to the work of black artists going back across generations. To remain silent and complicit in their suffering, while also profiting off the back of a culture that they built, would be an act of inexcusable hypocrisy and is not something that we could keep a clean conscience with.

Dead Pest Records is committed to supporting the rights and freedoms of black & POC communities, both in The Unites States and worldwide. We stand in solidarity with all victims of racial abuse and discrimination, and of police brutality. We are dedicated to materially providing Mutual Aid to these communities in whatever ways we can in the hope that this can be of some benefit in building a more equal and egalitarian society for all.

As a label, and as people, we are staunchly in permanent opposition to racism, fascism, sexism, homophobia, transphobia, ableism, colonialism, imperialism, economic inequality and 'The Police' as an institution. We will never recognize the legitimacy of these instruments of systematic oppression, nor the unjust hierarchies of power that wield them to rule through coercion and violence.

Nobody is free until ALL are free!

To that end, we will be following the guidance of the Minnesota Freedom Fund and donating 100% of the proceeds generated from this track to Black Visions Collective, a Minneapolis MN based organization dedicated to Black liberation and collective liberation. Black Visions Collective is a Black-led, Queer and Trans centering organization whose mission is to organize powerful, connected Black communities and dismantle systems of violence through building strategic campaigns, investing in Black leadership, and engaging in cultural and narrative organizing. Black Visions Collective believes in a future where all Black people have autonomy and public safety is community-led.
